Snowmobile Trail Report

2/22/2012
Trail Conditions: Fair

3 inches of wet heavy snow on Tuesday gave us something to work with again. Temps on Wed stayed below 32 and more snow in the forecast for Friday and the weekend. Groomers will be out later this week and this could be a good weekend to ride, monitor the weather closely and hope for more snow!

2/16/2012
Trail Conditions: Spotty

Light snow showers are in the forecast for today and Saturday. Temps will be in the 20’s and 30’s with lows in the teens. Grooming is still on going weather permitting. They are trying to keep the trails in the best shape they can with what they have to work with. Expect icy corners and bare spots around towns. The best riding will be early in the day before the trails soften up and in the woods.

2/7/2012
Trail Conditions: Spotty

After a week of temps in the high 30s and even approaching the low 40s the trails took a big hit. Thankfully the warm weather is gone and the temps are back to seasonal norms for the rest of the week. Bare spots are showing where there is a lot of exposure to the sun, corners are pretty icey, but the trails in the woods still have a nice base. Riders from last weekend stated, "Some really good riding in the woods, just have to get there." We will try to get out this week and provide our own feedback. Our suggestion would be to trailer to where you want to ride to get outside of the towns. The Bear Bar in Winchester has offered to allow Day Parking for those going norht and there are other good parking areas around the area as well.

Trail Conditions: Fair to Good

The forecast changed on us this morning, high temps are now going to be in the 32-34 area for the next few days with lows in the 20's. Overnight grooming is being planned weather permitting. Best riding is early in the day as trails will soften up by mid-afternoon with the milder weather. Overnight riders reported trails were great at times in the woods, areas with direct sunlight were getting thin, the corners are still icey. Updates will continue this week as we talk to riders.

1/31/2012
Trail Conditions: Good

Put on a 100 miles last night and the trails were good, groomers are still recovering from a HIGH TRAFFIC weekend and most trails have been fixed up already. Temps today hit 36 degrees and there was some melting on the roads but the trails have a solid base and held up well. Temps for the rest of the week will be cooler and the melting should be over, give the groomers a day to get the trails formed up and we will have another good weekend of riding.

1/24/2012
Trail Conditions: Very Good

5 inches of new snow has helped upgrade the trails to VERY GOOD. Even with heavy traffic on the weekends the trails are holding up nicely and are some of the best we have seen in years. A big thanks to all of those in the area that help support and maintain our trail system! We will update the Trail Report if the condtions change.

1/16/2012
Trail Conditions: Good

We will be getting a little more snow to whiten the trails up after a busy weekend. This week's forecast is calling for snow showers to continue for most of the week with a couple more inches of snow possible. High temps will be in the teens and lows in the single digits through Friday. Put on 75 miles last night and the trails were very good, with the excpetion of some icey corners in ares that had not been groomed yet.

1/15/2012
Trail Conditions: Fair to Good

Another busy weekend on the Northwoods Trails with a lot of traffic! Overall conditions are good to fair depending on where you are, how much traffic is there, and how long since the last groomer came by. Trails are snow covered but starting to get icey in the corners as high traffic volumes pushes the snow around; as always we could use more snow. Mid-Week riding should be very good as the traffic will be down and the trails will hold up.

Trail Conditions: Fair to Good

The snow started flying Wednesday night and has been coming down all day today. Estimates vary based on location, kind of hard to tell for sure with all of the blowing. At this point we are estimating 3-6 inches on the ground with snowfall continuing throughout the night (2 more inches possible). We didn't need much to get the trails back in shape, the base is still there; just needed to cover up the spots the sun hit on Monday and Tuesday. The groomer is out right now and the hotel is filling up with sleds, we will get some firsthand trail conditions tomorrow....

1/10/2012
Trail Conditions: Not Good to Fair

Unseasonably warm weather did us in this week, the trails have really took a hit from these warm temps. Bare spots are showing along areas with direct sunlight and in areas that didn't have good snow cover. Overall, people are still riding on them, but almost unrideable. The good news; we have hope. Forecasts for Wed and Thur have 1-10 inches of snow...your guess is as good as ours when it comes to predicting this storm. We are all hoping for the best, a good snowfall and the Timberline will be sold out this week (been fielding a lot of calls). Stay tuned...

Trail Conditions: Fair to Good to Great at Times

One of the busiest weekends on the Northwoods trails in a long time. With the lack of snow around the surrounding states, a lot of sled-heads are making their way to Manitowish Waters. Over the weekend we had a lot of traffic and we were able to get riding reports from all riders. Conditions were reported as "75% Great and 25% Not Good," like any busy trail weekend in the area the conditions were really based on traffic. The snow is here, we have a good base, but a lot of traffic will make the best trails rough at times. Groomers were out every night and multiple groups made runs this morning before leaving and reported the trails were the "best of the weekend." Again, we caution that it depends where you are riding and how much traffic is there. Many of our trail riders booked rooms for the weekend coming up, so the trails must have been pretty good. As for this week, we need to watch the weather; Monday and Tuesday have highs nearing 40 degrees and we will be watching the trails closely to see if they hold up to another warm up. No significant snowfall in the forecast as of yet, but stay tuned.

Trail Conditions: Good to Excellent

We were able to get some really good riding in early part of this week, but Thursday and Friday had highs in the upper 30s. Ovearll, Manitowish Waters' trails held up ok. Areas with high sun exposure did lose quite a bit of snow, but most areas are still snow covered. Other trails in the area (South and East of here) weren't as lucky, but since we received so much snow last weekend the trails withstood the warm up. Groomer just went by and hopefully we see temperatures tomorrow under 32 degrees. The Timberline Inn has a lot of riders up this weekend and we will update everyone with their feedback.

1/2/2012
Trail Conditions: Excellent

More Snow! Last night Manitowish Waters received another 3-4 inches of the soft powdery white stuff. Overall in the last 48 hours the official snowfall at Timberline Inn is 10 inches. We were out on a five hour snowmobile ride yesterday and covered most of the Northwoods. Trail conditions across the entire area were GREAT! The base is solid, good snow on top of the base, and groomers were out throughout the area last night. Temps will be falling on Monday and Tuesday, so this snow should hold up nicely for quite a while. Let's Ride!

Trail Conditions: Good to Excellent

Snow, Snow, Snow...what a great way to start 2012. Overnight we saw 4-7 inches of heavy wet snow depending on locations (Lake Effect). We continue to have snow in the forecast for the next two days. The trails withstood all of the traffic from the busiest week of the year mainly due to the low temps we had earlier in the year. Overall conditions for the week after Christmas were good, but this new snow will leave the trails GREAT! We will continue to update as the snow comes down, but at this point we are heading out riding and enjoying the snow.

Trail Conditions: Early Season Conditions to Fair

The sleds have been running by the Timberline Inn all day today and I did have a chance to talk with a few guests who are up riding. From those who have been riding the conditons are "Not Bad." Snow covered for the most part (had another 4 inches of snowfall Christmas Day). Ground is frozen solid and they are holding up well to the traffic. Lake Effect Snow has the Northern trails in better conditions and most clubs are continuing to groom. Given the circumstances most riders have been happy with what they are seeing. A quick note for all the downhill skiing enthusiasts; 85% Open (16 Trails Open and 7 Lifts), groomed and still making snow. Stay with the Timberline Inn and received a $5 discount on your lift tickets.

12/23/2011
Trail Conditions: Early Season Conditions

The temperatures have been low enough to freeze most areas, some swaps and low area are still soft. The trails are snow covered, but we really do need more snow. Light flurries the last couple days with the potential for an inch or two, but we could really use more than that. Groomers have been out in all areas and snowmobilers have been riding the trails for two weeks now. Our advice is to start in Manitowish Waters and go North. More updates are coming as soon we get past Christmas and the busy week begins. Happy Holidays!

12/4/2011
Trail Conditions: CLOSED

The snow has been falling and our temperaturs are finally back down to normal for this time of year. Over the last week Manitowish Waters recorded 8 inches of snow, Minocqua 6 inches, Winchester 10 inches, and the Ironwood, MI 12 inches. Michigan trails are still not open and the earliest Wisconsin trails could open to the public is 12/15. We will continue to monitor snow fall, temps, and groomer action. The start of the season isn't too far away yet, so stay tuned for updates as they occur.

10/1/2011
